Hi Michael,

I'm just a third-party user of Aventail (our clients have Aventail set up at
their site), so take what I say as second-hand knowledge. Our web app just
goes thru their Aventail layer.

Well, yes and no. Aventail maps URLS coming in and then re-parses outbound
HTML & JavaScript to re-map URLS again (it's a performance nightmare).

It's my understanding that Aventail is basically a rewrite of mod_proxy, so
hopefully it has no more of a footprint that stock mod_proxy does. I don't
know if the content-encoding comes after mod_proxy in outbound traffic. If
so, I would think we have a much better chance of success. I assume that
Aventail is Apache 1.3, at least the version we're using.

Thanks!
