[Mod_gzip] IE 5.0 crash/disappears

I have the Window 2000 Apache/Mod-gzip installed.  While browsing through 
the page, sometime(unpredictable..) on clicking on the some url (not always 
the same url..), I get the hourglass and after say around 30 sec., the 
window disappears.

The browser is version 5.00.2900.000.

If I disable compression either by making IE to HTTP/1.0 or removing 
mod_gzip, I don't see this problem at all.

Is it a known browser bug?.
