Thanks, I did see those notes in the ChangeLog
earlier, but I had some errors with them so I tried
using apxs -i -a -c as a back up measure. When I
tried both the methods outlined in ChangeLog, I got
the same error during the make:

I'm not sure what the beginning of the error was. So
I guess my questions are 1) Should I have copied the
whole source with the debug modules, or should I
remove them? 2) Is the apxs method still a valid way
to compile and install mod_gzip, or do these two
methods replace apxs. I guess in my case it doesn't
matter, because I seem to have some other issues with
the compile process. I am using gcc.
