Sorry, but my mail client is set to send plain text messages.......

I don't see any reason why the CustomLog directive shouldn't work, 
except that content isn't being passed through mod_gzip or there's a 
some problem with the module causing it to ignore the content.....

Certainly the CustomLog directive works fine in several other 
implementations (and indeed is taken directly from the mod_gzip web site...)

I'll play around with it a bit though....
