please post your changes of Makefile.tmpl to the list
so they have a chance to make it into the next release.

The current Makefile.tmpl does work on some UNIX plat-
forms and doesn't work on others, but I don't know enough
about "make" to understand how to modify the template so
that it would work everywhere ... it may as well be an
issue of different behaviour of Apache's "configure" on
these platforms, as well as different behaviour of "make"
in different versions ...

Which output is produced by "make -v" on your machine?
