[Mod_gzip] mod_gzip 1.3.26 statically compiled

Looked everywhere, couldn't find anything on using mod_gzip without 
apxs/dso.

I found a link to a page in German that might contain such instructions, 
but
unfortunately I don't read German.  Especially not Technical German.

With 1.3.19, I know to just put mod_gzip.c in src/modules/extra/, but now
I see several files, with no indication as to where they belong.

Is there a short series of steps or am I doomed to staty with 1.3.19?
